MAORI: Ten Year Plan

· The School site is recognised as an important historical site, Whetukairangi Pa
· Become familiar with current resources
· Staff initiate Te Reo learning
· Te Reo is timetabled and integrated. Te Reo grammar and vocab is explicitly taught (front-loaded) as well as worked into the Inquiry
· On-going PL in Maori for staff, staff set personal goals around their own mastery of Te Reo
· Te Reo is used throughout the day
· Develop a scheme/framework for teaching a graded/levelled programme.
eg. Level 1 taught on a 3 year cycle, level 2 taught on a 3 year cycle
· Integrate Inquiry with Te Reo, using the natural environment etc.
· Integrated within the Arts
· Staff will be able to conduct Powhiri/Poroporoake
· Focus events are planned so that students can use Te Reo in authentic settings eg. Noho Marae
· New staff is provided with Maori induction kit. The History and Tikanga of the school
· The Treaty of Waitangi is understood. Staff are aware of the requirements of the Treaty
· Extending out into the community; supporting and piggybacking on the work of other schools…..
· Year 6 leavers have conversational Maori fluency
· Staff will have a similar level
· Reaching out to Nga Mokopuna for authentic experiences
· Applying Te Reo in authentic relevant settings
· Create resources which reflect the nature of the school WBS. Our own Haka, waiata etc
· Celebrating our bilingualism
